Margaret Farrelly began selling free range eggs in the early 1980s to supplement income from her husband Leo’s small farm on the Cavan-Meath border. Clonarn Clover started with 150 free range hens. Today the business has a free range flock of 160,000 hens and produces and packs 48 million eggs a year. She launched a new brand, O’Egg, which includes traditional free range eggs plus pasteurised liquid egg products for cooking and baking. The business employs 32 people. Find out more here.

Teenagers use the word “Mega” to describe things that are “cool”, “super” or “brilliant”. All of those adjectives are certainly true for the Mega Egg!

Apart from having all the excellent nutritional value of a normal free range egg, it is naturally rich in Omega 3 fatty acids (which are good for your heart) from a vegetarian source and contains high amounts of the antioxidants Vitamin E and Selenium (which help maintain a healthy immune system).

Supporting this product for the health conscious we also have organic eggs. These are free range eggs produced in farms where the hens follow an organic diet and never get in contact with any non organic products.

Both lines were introduced in 2000. The Mega Egg is the only omega 3 enriched free range egg that is suitable for vegetarians.

1. Omega 3 is found naturally on nuts, seeds and oily fish and vegetation such as salmon.
2. The hens are fed diets rich on seeds and seaweed and they transfer the OMEGA 3 to the yolk of the egg.
3. The benefits of omega 3 include reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke while helping to reduce symptoms of hypertension, depression, joint pain, inflammation and rheumatoid problems.
4. Omega 3 also helps certain skin ailments, boost the immune system and help against Alzheimer’s.
