Ballymaloe House dates back to the 1600s, built around a 15th
Century Norman Castle. The house and four hundred acres of rolling
farmland was bought in 1948 by Ivan and Myrtle Allen. In 1964
Myrtle opened a restaurant in Ballymaloe House, using the abundance
of locally grown produce. The restaurant soon attracted huge
recognition for its excellent food, winning numerous international
awards. Twenty years ago, Yasmin Hyde, daughter of Ivan and Myrtle,
started producing one of Ballymaloe's favourite recipes -
Ballymaloe Country Relish. Today this is Ireland's favourite
relish. The range has expanded to include Jalapeno Pepper Relish,
Cranberry Sauce, Mint Jelly, Apple Sauce, Salad Dressings, Pasta
Sauces and Cheddar Melt. All these products are made in Co. Cork
using the best quality natural ingredients and no artificial
additives.
There are currently 18 people employed by Ballymaloe Country Relish
in Little Island, Co. Cork, some of whom have been employed by the
company since its foundation. Yasmin has always made it a priority
to buy Irish raw materials and packaging, she is also a great
supporter of local services such as printing, transport,
maintenance and engineering.
Ballymaloe Country Relish supports many Irish charities and schools
through sponsorship. Yasmin is a strong supporter of anti-litter
activities, both nationally as a member of Irish Business Against
Litter, and in her local community. She believes a litter-free
Ireland is good for our tourism industry and also makes Ireland a
nicer place to live.
Ballymaloe Country Relish is also 100% committed in doing all
they can to help the environment, by sourcing recyclable packaging
material and reducing waste at all times.
