The mere mention of Avonmore stirs up a wellspring of homely
images and unmistakeably creamy milk. Offering goodness in a glass,
Avonmore is a byword for health, goodness and taste.
The 'Avonmore' brand name originates in County Kilkenny, Ireland
- it refers to Avonmore Foods, which along with Waterford Foods,
merged to create Glanbia plc - the international group which owns
the 'Avonmore' brand in Ireland.
In 1967 the Avonmore Creameries Federation was formed when 36
small co-operative societies and Unigate Limited came together to
establish a new milk processing facility in Ballyragget, Co.
Kilkenny.
The then new co-operative was named after the Avon river which
flows through Callan, Co. Kilkenny, close to the location of the
Group's first processing facility. Avonmore was founded by people
who foresaw that farmers could help themselves through their own
multipurpose co-operative society. Their plan to grow and expand
the business evoked the word more, hence Avonmore.
Avonmore today still has strong links in the community sponsoring
the successful Kilkenny hurling team. Avonmore also sponsors
Munster schools rugby. Avonmore supports the Barretstown camp for
children recovering from serious illnesses, pledging to raise €2
million for the charity.
Avonmore has gone from strength to strength since its inception,
always striving to break new ground. Avonmore milk was the
first-ever milk brand to be advertised on Irish TV. We celebrated
our arrival on the small screen by placing a 1 Litre carton of
bainne in a champagne bucket!
Today, Avonmore is one of Ireland's biggest selling and best
loved brands and therefore a perfect fit with the Love Irish Food
initiative. Avonmore uses milk sourced only from Republic of
Ireland farms.

year of asking the public to host their own Big Picnic to help
