FAQ
What is Love Irish Food?
Love Irish Food was formed in 2009 when a number of companies from the Irish Food and Drink Industry came together to promote the positive consequences of supporting Irish Food and Drink Brands. There is a lot of uncertainty about what brands are truly Irish brands. We hope that the Love Irish Food logo can help eliminate some of the confusion.
The Love Irish Food campaign and logo is intended to be a powerful and positive signpost by which helps you identify when shopping, the brands manufactured in the Republic of Ireland.
Our symbol assures consumers of the Irish credentials of participating member brands as a result of strict membership criteria which ensures that over 80% of the brand is manufactured in the Republic Of Ireland.
Who is involved in Love Irish Food?
Some of Ireland’s best known and most loved food and drinks brands are included in this initiative. We currently have over 80 member brands. Visit the Our Brands tab to see many of the brands involved.
How is Love Irish Food funded?
The Love Irish Food campaign is entirely funded by its member brands. No funding is received from the state or any other organisation.
How does the campaign work?
Brands who qualify to be part of the campaign, pay an annual membership subscription which is used to actively promote the positive campaign message through national TV and radio advertising, consumer events, in-store promotions and much more!
How can the public get involved?
We are encouraging you to switch from imported brands. Instead buy two more Irish brands in your weekly shopping. Did you know that if each household in Ireland (that’s 1,700,000) spent an average of €1.67 on an Irish manufactured food or drink each week for a year we would generate €300 million for the Irish economy. Look out for the Love Irish Food logo on pack and help support Ireland’s families.
What are the exact criteria for participation and how do brands qualify?
Love Irish Food has set out very strict criteria for membership based on consumer expectations of what constitutes an Irish brand.
- A brand qualifies to become a member of Love Irish Food (LIF) if they manufacture in ROI (minimum of 80% of the brand must be made in ROI)
- They must use ingredients were possible from ROI. In cases where Ireland simply does not grow the ingredients (tealeaves or cocoa beans), the member brand must be primarily derived from Irish manufacturing processes
- Retailer own label brands are excluded from membership
